BRIDGES AND VIADUCTS RESTORATION

Hydro demolition

Due to the geographical situation in Central Europe, the density of bridges and viaducts is basically extremely high compared to other parts of the world.

To ensure the safety of bridges and viaducts, timely and professional maintenance of the concrete is required. Alternatively, you can remove only the paint layer and apply it back later. For the construction of bridges and viaducts, we relied mainly on concrete as a material, in combination with reinforced iron. In addition to natural aging (the so-called carbonation), it is above all environmental influences (static overloads or salt spreading) that cause damage to the concrete and the reinforcing structures. It is therefore necessary to remove the old concrete so that the old iron reinforcements are freed and cleaned of corrosion, in order to then be able to apply subsequently a new anticorrosive protection and concrete as a covering layer. The advantage in the removal of concrete by high pressure water jets consists in the vibration-free processing, which avoids tension cracks. At the same time, the reinforcing structures itself is also cleaned from corrosion. The partial removal of damaged concrete is performed with a jet of water up to 3000bar and up to 400 liters / min, using special robots or manual lances.

Advantages

• Absence of secondary damage such as. new micro-cracks
• The very high-pressure water jet does not generate any vibrations, so much so that it can not result in tension cracks, nor an extension of the noise induced in the structure
• The resulting surface is rough and ideal for proper adhesion of the new concrete
• Concrete which is more damaged is removed more easily due to its reduced resistance to pressure. In this way, selective removal is possible
• Complete conservation of the existing reinforced structure
• Effective and efficient cleaning of corroded steel reinforcement
• Solvent action on the chloride of the high pressure jet
• Increase in grip values

Fields of application

• Removal of concrete on surfaces, vertical surfaces and soffits, overhangs, etc.
• Removal of various thicknesses parts from roughening to the complete removal of the base
• Creation of notches for the integration of reinforcement reinforcements.

Creation of a roughness depth
Increase of adhesion values

In many bridges, while undergoing renovations, it is necessary to renew the waterproofing coat in the structure of the road surface. Such waterproofing is necessary to avoid damage to the concrete. As a result of non-compliant waterproofing, damaged points are generated which can later compromise the stability of the bridge.

Thanks to our special very high pressure machinery we are able to roughen concrete surfaces.
After milling the asphalt, where the concrete surface must be treated, workings are effected with a working pressure of 2600 bar and with the particular combination of nozzles, thus a roughness of 3 mm can be reasonably reached.
It is much easier to achieve adhesion values on both old and new concrete. Adhesion values of 1.5N / mm2, which are required for insulation work, are reached with a working pressure of up to 1000 bar. For this purpose, the special means and / or even helped by manual systems can free the concrete from grout, generating a roughness depth of approx. 0.1-0.3 mm.

Advantages

• Absence of secondary damage such as. new micro-cracks
• Optimal and ideal connection between “new and old”
• No damage to the reinforcements
• Surface ready for other processing
• Efficient and fast

Fields of application

• Bridge restoration
• Rehabilitation of joints
• Sealing surfaces
